Peruvian organic banana exports grew 28% year-on-year between January and October this year, reaching US$67 million, website Agraria.pe reported.
The
amount exported also grew by 20% over the same period, reaching an
average of 9,800 tons a month and a price of US$0.68 per kg.
The
top destination for the crop was the Netherlands with US$35.6 million
bought (53% of the total), followed by the U.S. with US$13.9 million
(21%). From the business end, the exporters were led by the
Peruvian Association of Small Organic Producers with US$5.7 million
(9%), followed by the Organic Banana Association with US$5.1 million
(8%).
In 2011, total organic banana exports came in at US$63.1
million, reaching a monthly average of US$5.2 million and an average
price of US$0.64 per kilo.
